DEGRUVME, capricorn • resident deejay • development
The mean streets of San Gabriel Valley's Monrovia suburb groomed and nearly led Degruvme to an illustrious career in competitive paintball. Lucky for us he instead fell in love with deejaying, cutting his teeth in Fresno's deep house music scene at his BodyLanguage events. These days, he divides his free time among family, friends, music production for Housetribe Records, sets at D.O.P.E. LA events, as well as planning and mixing at La Junta functions. While he works on his ultimate mission to earn a living as a super music producer, weekdays find this Yucateco posed as a nerdy I.T. director, holding it all together with black coffee, sugar packets, and occasional romps to find the perfect cochinita pibil taco. With his paintball skills still intact, degruvme is voted Most Likely To Survive A Zombie Apocalypse.
PRESCILLA C, sagittarius • event production • social media
'MrsP2626' to IG followers, Prescilla spent her young adulthood honing serious party hosting skills in California's Central Valley. Folks there remember her good work at the BodyLanguage and LAPD (Lifting Another Planet's Development) events. She brings this wealth of experience south to LA in hopes of taking both La Junta and her weekly Walking Dead television gatherings to 'legendary' status. She roots for Darryl, btw. Having designed and sewn her own clothing back in the day, this lovely, devoted wife and mother of three now aspires to perfect her carne asada tacos as a full-fledged homemaker. For now though, she's content to slum in the commercial real estate business. Disco, gin & tonics, and a bit of Michael Jackson will make Pres twirl and tear up the dance floor!
YUKICITO, pisces • resident deejay • sound design
Hailing from Osaka, Japan via Boyle Heights, CA, Yukicito is a diamond that keeps revealing shiny new facets. He first brandished his music production chops, then solid skill behind the mixer, and again with his hands on a djembe, cuica and pandeiro. There are even rumors he gets around on a trumpet and trombone. Out on the floor, he dazzles the ladies with fluency in the dance languages...salsa, cumbia, merengue, forró, samba....he's got em all! Yuki's broad tastes span across music and, of course, food. He loves the fare from his homeland, but seems equally pleased ogling a dinner plate with anything from Guisado's tacos to fried chicken to the appetizers on Fronteras' happy hour menu. His latest obsession, admittedly, involves Halo oranges. Yukicito's plan for world domination is to travel all over with his music as the ticket.
PALOMA B, libra • photography • social media
Now our fashion-forward, cumbia-loving photog and social media maven, Paloma passed up Saturday morning cartoons as a kid in Montclair, CA in favor of locking herself in her parents' room to learn the latest dances on Soul Train. It explains her penchant for dropping conversations mid-sentence, proclaiming "I love this song!" whenever funky disco or house music bass lines catch her ear. She'll unabashedly leave you high and dry to head for the dance floor, but always returns to make you feel right at home at our events as she adores bringing people together. When she's not strutting all those moves, this pretty lil' dove soars on dreams of becoming a full-time globe trotter while currently working as a senior production coordinator at a reputable fashion company. Offer her a Diet Coke w/Sailor Jerry rum at La Junta and she might just flash her glorious smile at you.
GLENN RED, leo • resident deejay • brand design
It took little else but our friendly smiles and a forkful of panna cotta to woo Glenn Red into visiting a La Junta event in Season 1. The rest is history. He's the newest part of La Junta and, more importantly, now hooked on The Walking Dead. He also takes over the title of oldest team member! With Glenn's graying goatee, though, come years of deejay know-how and deep music crates. Since owning his first lp 'Saturday Night Fever' as a kid in Walnut, CA, his vast taste in music is now equalled only by his vast hat collection. By day, he designs flyers and web pages promoting how cool his events will be; by night, he sets out to prove it. With each outing, Glenn hopes to keep earning his moniker 'silent assassin', with which he was dubbed as the subtly killer opening deejay at Santa Monica's renowned Afro Funké party.
