On Saturday January 30th, the La Junta Sound System were invited to play records out in the courtyard of the Craft & Folk Art Museum (CAFAM) on Los Angeles' Museum Row/Miracle Mile/Wilshire District. Though Yukicito was missing in action due to his extensive preparations in advance of his upcoming samba performances in Brazil, I was with the 'mano DEGRUVME from 11am-5pm mixing everything from soul jazz to future soul, cumbia to samba, disco to nu-disco, highlife to afrobeat, Stevie to Marvin to Michael, and more! We received some great feedback and--dare I say!--compliments from the CAFAM staff as well as museumgoers. We also were asked for quite a few La Junta business cards, while Degruvme even sent some lucky guests on their ways with a free copy of his brand new ECHOES OF A DREAM EP. Below are just a few shots I snapped as we were setting up shop for the day. Much love to CAFAM's SASHA ALI (aka MISS MODULAR RADIO) for the invitation!
Here are some 50+ photos from degruvme's "ECHOES OF A DREAM" EP release concert, with thanks to the evening's photog at large, Mauricio Alvarado. The joyful vibes flowed generously from start to finish, as guests waiting in line outside poured into the venue from the moment the doors opened at 10pm. So many familiar and new faces came into to fill up the dance floor, bar and lounge areas, while the deejays, DEGRUVME, and the guest artists took to the stage and let their lights shine all night long. Be sure to stay tuned to news about the digital release of ECHOES OF A DREAM in the coming weeks!
Our deepest gratitude and thanks go to the folks directly involved in the fruition of this project <3

Friday January 22, 2016 marks the release and concert event for degruvme's ECHOES OF A DREAM ep. The images below show the artists who collaborated on the project, as well as the supporting cast lending their talents to the live event.
Over the last couple of years, La Junta's resident deejay and co-founder--degruvme--has been quietly producing and writing a small mountain of beats, lyrics & dreams….
Last year, a casual collaboration with Leah Gallegos of East L.A. urban folksters Las Cafeteras provided the spark for an ambitious project that would entice a few more of his favorite Angeleno singers to step out of their established sounds and see what would happen when let loose on dance floor-inspired tracks.
The fruition of degruvme's labor of love is an EP featuring five multitalented artists-- Leah Rose (Las Cafeteras), Alexandro D. Hernández Gutiérrez (Aparato), Irene Diaz, Hector Flores (Las Cafeteras), and Angie Kings--blessing six brand new songs with their unique voices and styles.
"Echoes of a Dream” is an eclectic mix of Disco, Synth-driven Nu-wave, Afro-Latin rhythms & Tribal House.
Join us for the special release event, brought to you by The Living Sessions & La Junta L.A. and emceed by the beautiful and talented Julieta Isela, featuring live performances by the artists as you have never heard them before!!!!!!

Lovers of seminal U.K. 80's band THE SMITHS and the subsequent solo work of their brooding but charismatic frontman MORRISSEY will be delighted to know their music has continued to live on in the hearts of East Los Angeles. Via events such as Eastside Luv Bar's MORRISSEY-Oke karaoke nights, fans still revel in this music that meant so much to an entire era of youth. The next level of tribute, however, is being ushered in by the new outfit from calling themselves MARIACHI MANCHESTER, a full-fledged traditional mariachi ensemble covering many of our favorite Smiths and Moz hits.
The LA JUNTA SOUND SYSTEM has the honor of supporting one of Mariachi Manchester's first live performances on Thursday March 26th. We're EXTRA excited for this one!
